ADAM Privacy Policy
Effective 5 November 2026
ADAM is a workout timer and training app for iPhone, iPad and Android, provided by ADAM Lifestyle, managed by Niko Toluono in New Zealand ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information ADAM uses, why, who it is shared with and the choices you have.
The short version
- You can use ADAM's timers without an account. Your timers then stay on your device.
- If you create an account, we store your account details and the timers, runs and profile you choose to save, on our server in the EU.
- We only store health information (such as your weight, goal or health conditions) if you give explicit consent. You can withdraw it at any time and we delete that information straight away.
- We never use your health information for advertising or marketing, and we never sell your personal information.
- ADAM shows ads from Google AdMob. Where the law requires it, we ask for your consent before ads are personalised.
- You can delete your account and all of its data from inside the app at any time.
1. Who is responsible for your information
ADAM Lifestyle, managed by Niko Toluono in New Zealand, is the controller of the personal information described in this policy. You can contact us about anything in this policy at [email protected].
2. Using ADAM without an account
Your timers, templates you save, interval names, settings, runs and workout history are stored only on your device. We don't receive them. They are deleted when you delete the app, or when you choose Settings → Reset all data. If you use iCloud or Google device backups, your phone may include this app data in its backups; those backups are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies.
3. Information we collect when you create an account
An account is optional. It lets you keep your timers safe and use them on more than one device. Depending on how you sign in we receive:
- Sign in with Apple: a unique identifier from Apple and, if you choose to share them, your name and email address (which may be an Apple private relay address).
- Sign in with Google: a unique identifier from Google, your name and your email address.
- Email: your email address and, if you set one, your password. Passwords are stored only as a secure one-way hash; we can never see them.
We also store the content you choose to sync: your custom timers, their order, interval names and your app preferences (such as language, sounds and display settings), plus technical records needed to keep you signed in (a session record and the date it was last used).
4. Your profile and health information
When you're signed in, ADAM can ask about you so it can personalise your training and nutrition guidance. This can include your year of birth, sex, height, weight and target weight, fitness goal, activity level, training experience, training days and equipment, diet preference, allergies, health conditions and injuries, and the weights you log over time.
Much of this is health information. We only store it if you tick the consent box to allow it, and we use it only to provide and personalise ADAM for you. You can view and change your answers in the app at any time. If you withdraw your health consent (Account → Privacy & consent), we immediately delete your health answers, your weight history and the heart-rate figures stored with your runs. You must be 16 or older to save a health profile.
ADAM isn't a medical service and doesn't diagnose or treat anything. Always check with a doctor before starting a new training or diet plan.
5. Runs and location
If you use the running tracker, ADAM uses your device's location (GPS) while a run is being recorded, including when the screen is off, to measure distance, pace, splits and your route. Location is not used at any other time. Your runs are stored on your device and, if you're signed in, saved to your account so they're available on your other devices. Heart-rate figures are stored with a run only if you have given health consent.
6. Apple Health, Health Connect and heart-rate sensors
- Apple Health (iPhone) and Health Connect (Android): if you allow it, ADAM can save your workouts and runs to your health app and read heart rate and weight so it can show your heart rate for a workout and keep your profile up to date. You choose exactly what ADAM may read and write in your phone's settings, and you can change it at any time.
- Information from Apple Health or Health Connect is used only to provide ADAM's features to you. It is never used for advertising or marketing, never sold, and never shared with third parties. A weight read from your health app is saved to your account only if you have given health consent.
- Bluetooth heart-rate sensors: ADAM connects to a sensor you choose to show your heart rate live during a workout. ADAM does not use Bluetooth to find your location.
7. Emails
We send emails that are needed to run your account, such as sign-in and password-reset codes. We send tips, news and offers only if you turn on "Email me tips and offers". You can turn this off in the app or with the unsubscribe link in any marketing email. Marketing emails are never targeted using your health information.
8. Advertising
ADAM is free and shows ads provided by Google AdMob. To show and measure ads, Google may collect information from your device such as its advertising identifier, IP address, approximate location, device and app information and how you interact with ads.
- In the UK, the European Economic Area and Switzerland we show Google's consent message before ads are personalised. You can change your choice at any time in Settings → Ad privacy settings.
- On iPhone and iPad, Apple asks whether ADAM may track you across apps and websites. If you choose "Ask App Not to Track", ads are not personalised using that tracking.
- We never give Google or any advertiser your account details, profile, health information, runs or Apple Health / Health Connect data.
Google's use of information is described at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
9. Permissions on your device
ADAM asks for a permission only when you use the feature that needs it, and you can turn each one off in your device settings.
- Notifications: to alert you at interval changes while ADAM is in the background.
- Location: only for the running tracker, while a run is being recorded.
- Bluetooth: to connect to a heart-rate sensor you choose.
- Health (Apple Health / Health Connect): to save workouts and read heart rate and weight, as described above.
- Camera: only to switch on the camera light for the Flashlight alert. ADAM never takes photos or records video.
- Tracking (iPhone and iPad): to allow personalised ads, if you agree.
10. Why we use your information (legal bases)
- To provide ADAM and your account (sign-in, syncing, runs): because it is necessary to provide the service you asked for.
- Health information: only with your explicit consent.
- Marketing emails and personalised ads: only with your consent, where the law requires it.
- Security, preventing abuse and fixing problems (for example limiting repeated sign-in attempts): our legitimate interest in keeping ADAM safe and working.
- Keeping a record of your consent choices: to meet our legal obligations.
11. Who we share information with
We don't sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run ADAM, under contracts that require them to protect it:
- Contabo GmbH: hosts our server and database in France (EU).
- Our email service: delivers sign-in codes and, if you opted in, marketing emails.
- Apple and Google: provide sign-in, app distribution and, for Google, advertising, as described above.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or others.
12. How long we keep information
- Your account, synced timers, profile, weights, runs and consent records: until you delete them or delete your account.
- Health information: until you delete it, withdraw your health consent or delete your account.
- Sign-in codes: until used, or 10 minutes at most.
- Sign-in sessions: until you sign out or delete your account.
When you delete your account (Settings → Account → Delete account) we delete all of the above from our live systems immediately.
13. Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR, the UK GDPR and US state privacy laws) you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting earlier use. You can do most of this directly in the app. For anything else, email [email protected]; we reply within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
14. Security
All information between ADAM and our server is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Passwords and sign-in tokens are stored only as secure hashes, and access to the server is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you and the authorities of a breach where the law requires.
15. Children
ADAM's timers are suitable for everyone. You must be at least 13 to create an account (or older where your country requires parental consent at a higher age), and at least 16 to save a health profile. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children below these ages; if you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
16. Changes to this policy
If we make important changes we will update this page and the effective date, and tell you in the app. Where the changes affect anything you consented to, we will ask again.
